Side Project + Balkan Treat Box Collaboration

We are excited to announce the release of Pocket Pivo, a collaboration with our friends at Balkan Treat Box! We teamed up with this James Beard-nominated restaurant to brew a "lunch lager" packaged in tiny 7.5oz 4-pack cans — perfect for casual work weeks when you just need a small beer and a bite!
Pocket Pivo releases this Friday, April 25th, at all Side Project locations when doors open! To celebrate, the Balkan Treat Box food truck will be at The Brewery Tasting Room (7458 Manchester Ave.) from 5–7pm that evening, serving up their amazing food. These mini cans will also be available for purchase at Balkan Treat Box starting early May.
A note from our Brewers about Pocket Pivo:
The fine folks at Balkan approached us to brew a lager that fit the needs of their afternoon crowd who wanted an approachable beer to enjoy over lunch! The result is this little beer that was bolstered with some Vienna malt and white wheat to give some body to the otherwise subdued beer. We used a new-to-us malt called Eraclea Pilsner which is a Mediterranean variety of barley in an effort to try to create something unique for our Bosnian amigos.
In continuing with the theme of a truly continental lager, we used a melange of tasty hops, including Ariana, Aramis, Mittelfruh, and Callista - all of which are crosses of Hallertau lineage. Pretty cool! The end result is a bouquet of floral aromas and a decidedly lemony finish on the palate with a firm bitterness to match with a handful of kebab.
These lil 7.5oz cans were a labor of love, so it’s thrilling to see them come to life. We also determined that each can is approximately 2.5 gulps. So, enjoy during your casual work week!
We can’t wait to see you all this Friday for the release of Pocket Pivo! Grab some dinner from the Balkan Treat Box Truck (5–7pm) and take home a 4-pack of 7.5oz cans to-go. Cheers!
